Pulling much of the focus from positive psychology, Health and Well-Being coaching helps people move along the mental wellness continuum from Languishing or Moderate Mental Health to Well-Being and Flourishing. The absence of a mental illness or disorder does not mean we are thriving. 

Traditional psychology tends to treat illness - to focus on what’s wrong. That’s great, we need that when we need it! Often applied through well-being coaching, positive psychology focuses on what’s strong - to bring balance and build resilience. It also connects, or re-connects us to others, as we recognize and share what makes each of us uniquely strong. We gain allies!

Why do we need this? Because many of us over-use the part of our mind that helps us survive, even when we’re not in immediate danger. We narrow our focus, constantly looking for “what’s wrong” in order to fix or prevent problems. Yet we cannot predict or control the future. We CAN know our internal and external resources… and leverage them with the energy and clarity we gain from not running around worrying all the time. That’s resilience!

So positive psychology doesn’t mean always being “happy” or in a perfect mindset. We simply live in greater awareness and trust. We’re never alone. We can always reach out, always grow, always learn. Together. We’re inter-resilient.
